Vietnam is one of the 25 countries with the highest biodiversity in the world with about 20,000 plant species, 3,000 fish species, more than 1,000 bird species and more than 300 mammal species. Vietnam's current forest area is over 14 million hectares (Decision 1558/QD-BNN-TCLN dated April 13, 2021 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on announcing the national forest status in 2020). This is home to rare wild animals and plants. However, Vietnam is facing a serious decline in biodiversity due to forest encroachment and illegal hunting, exploitation and trade of wild animals and plants. With a team of experts and collaborators with more than 20 years of practical experience in researching natural resources, organisms and ecosystems nationwide, the Center for Nature Conservation and Development (CCD Vietnam) is cooperating and supporting many partners in implementing programs to study, monitor and conserve biodiversity nationwide.
